When it comes to tattoo making, the cross ones are one of the most popular. The reason for their popularity is simple - they are religious for many, and they appeal to the spiritual self of the individual.
But then, it definitely does not mean that they are meant only for those who are spiritual or have religious sentiments. They are also very popular amongst those who are not religious themselves, but love to get it because of their mesmerizing pattern and striking appeal.

Design Types

Gothic Cross

They are very different in style. They are of Germanic pattern. They're probably one of those crosses with which a variety of designs can be made. They come in designs along with knives, barb wires, swords, etc.

Crucifix Cross

Mostly followed by people who follow Christianity. It is the quintessential wooden cross with the image of the Christ.

Celtic Cross

It is probably the most popular of all. It is fuller in design and looks attractive. It is like a Latin cross with a circle or curve around the intersection.

Latin Cross

This is one of the most simplest. The design is such that the horizontal line intersects the vertical line at a length of about 1/3rd from the bottom.

Greek Cross

Another most simplest and oldest pattern, it can be ideal for people, who would want to get a small mark. History shows that this symbol has been associated with worshiping the sun.

Anchor Cross

This one resembles the anchor more than the cross. But then, numerous designs of this type are followed by people with marine interests. These are more appropriate for men.

Tau Cross

The Tau or the T-shaped cross was used as a religious symbol by the pagans and the Christians. It is believed that the Mayans used to worship a similar looking T-shaped cross with a bird sitting on one of its arms.
The cross is regarded as a highly sacred symbol. It symbolizes faith, immortality, and the heavenly bodies. The four points or hands signify the four directions - the North, South, East, and West. It has been used as a symbol against evil since a long time.
Cross tattoos are such that they can be personalized, and you can design your own cross in different patterns with angel wings, spider web, ribbons, flowers, crowns, dagger, etc. It should be of a kind that defines you and reflects something about you.
