Such piercings are the latest fashion trend among youngsters these days. So, if you are planning to get one for yourself, you need to know about what exactly it is, the different types, and the risks involved in getting it done. Read on to know more about this piercing style.
Surface piercing is different from the normal piercings that are done on the ears and nose. Normally, piercing is done by inserting the needle from one side of the skin and taking it out from the other side. However, both the holes are created on the same plane of the skin.
In other words, the piercing does not penetrate the skin deeply and travels only a short distance. This makes it a very complicated piercing which, if not done correctly, can cause problems like rejection and damage to the tissues. Hence, if you want to get one, make sure you go to a piercer who has adequate experience.
Another reason that causes rejection is the type of jewelry used. There are piercers who use a curved or a straight barbell to do the piercing. However, the jewelry that should be used for this is a flexible surface barbell which has the shape of a stapler pin and has 90 degree angles at both the sides.
This jewelry helps in quickening the healing process as it is hard for the body to push it out of the skin. Hence, research well about the piercer, before you get your piercing done. Now, let us take a look at the different types of piercings that you can opt for.

Types of Piercings

This become popular because of its uniqueness, though getting a surface piercing done is quite a painful process. People have a number of options when it comes to the place where they want their piercing to be one. Here are different types of piercings which have become quite popular among today's youngsters.

Hip Piercing

Hip piercing is done on the area near the hip bone. It is usually done on one of the sides of the hips, either vertically, horizontally or diagonally. Though the piercing gives a sexy look, the chances of rejection and migration are high in this type of piercing, if the correct type of jewelry is not used.
Nape Piercing

Neck piercing is the piercing which is done on the sides of the neck and nape piercing is that which is done on the back of the neck.
As the neck undergoes lot of movements throughout the day, there are high chances of rejection when it comes to this type of piercing. To prevent this problem, it is better to use a jewelry that is made of teflon, rather than a steel bar which can be a little uncomfortable.
Collarbone Piercing

Collarbone piercing, which is also called clavicle piercing is done on both the collarbones.
This is a piercing that penetrates the inner body cavity as the jewelry goes under the collarbone and has exits on both the sides of the collarbone. As this piercing can cause nerve damage, it is said to be one of the most dangerous type of piercing.
Wrist Piercing
Wrist piercing usually does not stay for a long time because it is quite difficult to measure and place them properly.
Also, wrists are high movement areas as people use their wrists for various activities throughout the day and hence, the chances of rejection are very high for this type of piercing.

Facial Piercings

Among all types of piercings, the facial piercings are the most popular. When it comes to the face, there are various places where it can be done. Some of the commonly done facial piercings are eyebrow, anti-eyebrow, cheek, or chin piercings.
The risks involved are infections, nerve damage, allergic reaction, etc. However, most of them occur when proper care is not taken during or after the piercing is done.
However, if you want to enjoy your piercings for a long time, it is important that you take utmost care of them during the healing period and also, after that. You must remember that rejection of jewelry can occur years after the piercing is done, if the pierced area is subjected to any kind of trauma.
The best way to avoid this is to get the piercing done at a place which does not have to go through a lot of movement. Apart from this, the most important thing is that if you want your piercing to heal properly and avoid migration or rejection, make sure that you go to a piercer who is an expert in doing surface piercing.
