Traditional Rose Tattoos

A rose is a symbol of beauty. Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, beauty, pleasure, and procreation, and Venus, the Roman goddess of love, beauty, sex, fertility, and prosperity were symbolized with this flower. Among the early Christians, the five petals of the rose were identified with the five wounds of Jesus Christ.

However, the leaders of the church were hesitant to adopt the symbol because it was also associated with the Roman excesses, and pagan beliefs and rituals. With passage of time, the rose was adopted as a symbol of blood of Christian martyrs. Later, roses were also identified with Mother Mary

Choose one or more roses to complete your tattoo, and it can be embellished with different types of designs. Include leaves, thorns, birds, stars, crosses, hearts, anchors, daggers, swords, ribbon with someone's name, or even animals.

As far as the design is concerned, you can be as creative as you like. Depicting roses in different colors, when it comes to getting a traditional rose tattoo, the sky is the limit.
