One of the most prolific body ink designs are tribal tattoos. They are characteristic of free-flowing lines and intricate presentations. Any design that fancies you, speaks of your character or your life choices, or defines you, can be tattooed in a tribal way. Read on to know more.
In the olden days, many ancient tribes used tattoos to distinguish themselves. They were also used as identification marks and a sign of loyalty to a particular tribe.
For example, the Maori tribe from New Zealand and some tribes in Africa still use tribal tattoos to mark their tribesmen. Polynesian tribal tattoos are deemed to be as old as the art itself. Hawaiian tribal tattoos are also in great demand nowadays.
Tattoos have long been a mark of individualistic expression and a symbol of one's faith and belief system. Using the body as a moving canvas, many people are getting them to publicly display their views, opinions, and preferences.
A great place to have tattoos is on the back, because of the large flat area available to experiment with big and extensive designs and also if you want to hide it at work or at school.
Images that depict masculinity like flames, thorns, snakes and knives are used as inspiration by men. Women opt for feminine patterns like roses, lilies, mermaids, and butterflies. Some other designs you could experiment with are given.

Snake and Branches

Known for their flowing lines and delicate curves, tattoos on the back look great when the shapes and different forms of snakes are inked on it.
A snake with big eyes, long fangs, a fiery tongue, tangled in long curved branches on either side looks great right at the center of the back. Using different shading techniques for the eyes and tongue can make the design very hypnotic.

Skull and Swords

Swords, the symbol of power and strength, when incorporated with a skull, gives the illusion of a tattoo that looks like a pirate. The skull for some might be a little morbid, but when done with class and definition, it looks great and epitomizes a fearless attitude.
Swords going through the top of the skull or through the eyes can be very graphic and will surely attract a lot of attention.

Dragon and Fire

Fire breathing dragons with sharp scaly tails and wings spread wide is a great image to have on the back.
A dragon tattoo engulfed in flames with blood-shot eyes at the center of the design with wings spreading away from the center in dark symmetrical lines is another design that looks great. Dragon tattoos on the lower back are very popular among the women of the Asian community.
Celtic cross, knots, butterflies, and the tree of life, also look great. A phoenix with the sun and claws can also make heads turn.
