What to Consider Before Getting a Tattoo

Mikkie Mills
A design made by puncturing the skin with needles and injecting ink, tattoo is a permanent body art. It is your body and your choice, but before rushing off to get yourself inked, there are a few things you should consider.
There used to be a time when only sailors and those on the fringe of society had tattoos. Now, tattoos are something that can be found on people from all walks of life. They are used as a way for a person to express their individuality, as well as be an expression of art.

Meaning

One of the recent fads that has occurred in tattoos is getting a semicolon tattoo on your body.
The meaning behind this symbol is for a person to show that they affirm and stand in solidarity against addiction, suicide, depression, and other mental health issues. Be sure to get something that is meaningful to you.

Tattoos are Permanent

While there have been advances in tattoo removal, they don’t always guarantee that the ink will be completely removed from your body or that there won’t be scarring that results from the process.
Thus, it’s important to keep in mind that tattoos are permanent. Make sure you get something that you’ll be happy with for a long time to come.

They are Painful

Everyone experiences pain differently. When it comes to getting a tattoo keep in mind that a needle is driving ink into your skin.
Where you get the tattoo on your body will also determine how painful the process is. Areas that are more fleshy or fatty may hurt less. If you are sensitive to pain, keep in mind that all tattoos will come with some level of pain.

Where Do You Want It?

Deciding where to put the tattoo on your body will depend on what you are getting and whether or not you want other people to see it.
Some people get tattoos that are incredibly personal and meaningful to them, and they don’t want to explain it to others, so they put it on a place on their body where it’s concealed.
For some, keeping their ink hidden because of a job is important. Some are more than happy to share their tattoos with the world. You’ll need to decide how visible you want your tattoo to help you decide the best place on your body to put it.

What Is Your Reason for Getting One?

There are many reasons for wanting to get a tattoo. Maybe you like them as a form of art. Perhaps you are rebelling against your parents. It could be that all of your friends are getting one so you feel like you need to get one too.
No matter what your reason it, make sure you’ll be able to stand by your decision to get a tattoo. Don’t let anyone else tell you why you should or shouldn’t get one. Do what you want to do for you.
